Tobermory, the only distillery on the Isle of Mull, is nestled in an idyllic green setting on the Isle of Hebrides. Founded in 1798 by John Sinclair as Ledaig (pronounced led-chigg; Gaelic for 'safe haven'), it is one of Scotland's oldest commercial distilleries. Its history is as colorful as the beach promenade, buffeted by change, financial difficulties and several closures. It's only since 1993 - the year it became part of Burn Stewart Distillers - that this precious jewel has begun to thrive again. In its warehouses, listed as historic monuments, award-winning whiskies are aged to perfection.
Nose: Subtle aromas of smoky peat, vanilla and tropical fruit emerge delicately from the glass. Mouth: On the palate, powerful notes of caramel, black pepper and dark chocolate mingle with hints of sea salt and liquorice. Finish: The finish is long and intense, leaving a warm sensation of smoke and dried fruit on the palate.
Nose: Sweet with notes of milk chocolate and lemon, smoked tea, maritime aromas, soot. With water, becomes extremely fruity with a trace of red fruit jam and its smoky side coming through strongly.
Taste: Light and full-bodied texture at once, smoky then dry. Minty dark chocolate, salty. Water rounds things out and makes the taste even more powerful and succulent and sweet and spicy.
Finish: Beautiful, clean, very long with mentholated smoke.
Nose: Glentauchers Decadent Drams 19 yo reveals fruity notes of caramelized apples and ripe pears, accompanied by subtle aromas of oak and vanilla. Feel: On the palate, this whisky reveals intense flavors of tropical fruits, honey and sweet spices, with a velvety texture and nuances of nuts and caramel. Finish: The finish is long and warm, giving way to notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee and dried fruit for a rich, balanced conclusion.
Nose: Smooth and soft. Orange cream cake, a hint of vanilla, light slivered almond note and a slight green note. A drop of water enhances the waxy note.
Mouth: Creamy, sweet, note of Seville orange peel before drying out, a little peppery spiciness. A drop of water softens the taste and reduces acidity, but does not alter the overall profile.
