This is the first bottling (First Crop) of the 'Harvest Edition'. It is the second bottling in an annual series of limited bottlings, following Lochlea's 'Sowing Edition'. The whisky was aged in Port Hogsheads, Oloroso Sherry Butts and first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. Like all Lochlea whiskies, it is neither chill-filtered nor colored. The ash-gray and coral-red label reflects summer sunsets and the Ayrshire soil, which changes color to a deep red hue once the barley is harvested.
Lochlea Distillery is an independent single malt distillery based at Lochlea Farm in the heart of Ayrshire. Run by renowned former Laphroaig distillery manager John Campbell, the family farm grows and harvests its own barley, ensuring complete traceability from field to bottle - the only stage of production not currently carried out on the farm is malting, although this will probably soon be the case. Historically, Lochlea is the only distillery where Robert Burns actually lived and worked on the farm from 1777 to 1784.
Nose: Ballantine 21 Year Old offers complex aromas of honey, dried fruit and vanilla, with a subtle hint of oak.
Feel: On the palate, this Scotch whisky feels smooth and creamy, with notes of ripe fruit, cereal and toffee. The texture is silky and velvety, offering a rich, balanced taste experience.
Finish: The finish of Ballantine 21 Year Old is long and warm, leaving notes of oak, dried fruit and honey on the palate. An elegant, refined whisky, perfect for lovers of complex, balanced whiskies.
Nose: Notes of delicate orange lead followed by touches of apricot and popcorn lending sweetness to the maritime seaweed that echoes in the glass. Subtle pipe tobacco adds to the elegant smokiness and is rounded out by honey, vanilla and boiled sweets.
Palate: Light and zesty oak spice is joined by the rich and sweet bonfire smokiness that is so unmistakably Torabhaig spirit. Subtly waxy with hints of honey and vanilla balancing sea salt and seaweed that ebbs away to white pepper and sweet spice.
Finish: Like a sunset over the Sound of Sleat, this is lingering and elegant with notes of honey, storms and the ocean.
Nose: This red wine reveals intense aromas of red fruits and spices, with hints of cherry and black pepper. Mouth: On the palate, there's a lovely structure, silky tannins and pleasant freshness, accompanied by ripe fruit flavors and woody nuances. Finish: The finish is long and elegant, leaving a sensation of complexity and balance on the palate.
