This is the first single malt whisky in the Lochlea distillery's standard range. It was created by Distillery Manager and Master Blender John Campbell (ex Laphroaig), who took up his post in November 2021. Three different types of casks are used: first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels, STR casks and ex-sherry Oloroso Butts. The use of these casks gives 'Lochlea Our Barley' additional aromas of vanilla, caramel, flowers and dried fruit. The result is a deep, round flavor profile. The product is neither colored nor cold-filtered.
Nose: Mac-Talla Strata 15 Year Old reveals smoky, marine aromas, with hints of peat and salt. Feel: On the palate, this single malt offers spicy, woody flavors, balanced by hints of honey and dried fruit. Finish: The finish is long and lingering, leaving notes of oak and vanilla on the palate.
Nose: Fairly sweet. Fresh, clean phenols immediately assert themselves, with aromas of fire on a beach and wood ash. They are supported by subtle fruity notes, some sweet, suggesting rowan jelly, others evoking unripe currants. With a drop of water, the ash is more present.
Mouth: Unctuous and with a texture that really fills the mouth, very sweet at first then quickly drying, with a hint of salt and a smoky taste of lip-smacking intensity. A drop of water brings out the sweetness even more, but makes little difference.
Finish: Long, powerfully smoky and drying, with a touch of spice that also lingers in the aftertaste.
Nose: Heathery smoke balanced with subtle floral notes Palate: Gentle “peat-reek” flavours with hints of citrus tones and malty nuttiness Finish: Lingering smoke and peat with a touch of malted barley sweetness
