Stiùireadair - pronounced 'stew-rahdur', which means 'imonier' in Scottish Gaelic - is the latest addition to the Bunnahabhain family. With its briny, iodized flavor, this sherried malt takes you on a journey to Bunnahabhain Bay. To create her blend, Bunnahabhain's master blender Kirstie selected whiskies of different ages from a variety of warehouse locations to create a dram that truly reflects the coastal character of Bunnahabhain's single malt whiskies. Without losing the sherry influence that everyone knows and loves from the famous 12-year-old, Kirstie has created a storm in Stiùireadair.
Nose: Beautiful notes of lavender, vetiver and incense candles. There's a touch of leather, a little almond and a hint of wax. A drop of water opens up the aromatic spectrum, revealing hints of wood smoke, damp peat, a hint of menthol and more old leather.
Mouth: Salty and creamy, savory, eucalyptus oil, salted caramel, smoked pecans, wood smoke, creosote and tar. There's also a background of sweetness, like smoked pear crumble and a bit of fudge.
Finish: Notes of leather, salted caramel and a refreshing menthol sensation.
Nose: Notes of subtly spiced cereals, mango, papaya and pea pods. Traces of hard toffee and light oak chips. A drop of water reveals notes of cinnamon brioche and salted caramel.
Mouth: Silky and fluid with an intense taste of sweet butterscotch, a spicy-dry and woody intensity. The addition of water softens the honeyed sweetness of the creamy, smooth Swiss milk chocolate, with just a hint of salt in the mid-palate. The mild spices now keep the sweetness in check.
Finish: Short and rather intense, with spicy chili pepper notes.
Nose: Tart notes of lime and sweet peaches. Explosion of rich smoky fruit and baked bread, throat pastilles, creosote and anise. Sweet barley malt combines with nutmeg and peat smoke.
Mouth: Rich, sweet, aromatic and fruity, baked banana bread and syrupy sponge pudding fill the senses. Notes of molasses mingle with a distinctive whiff of burning cedarwood. A drop of water releases an abundance of tropical fruit. Eucalyptus oil mingles with sweet, aromatic smoke.
Finish: The influence of those rare Madeira casks is undeniable. A whimsical, smoky finish welcomes a long, lingering aftertaste of menthol, clove, wood smoke and camphor.
