Pikesville Straight Rye was first made in Maryland in the 1890s. At the time, the rye industry was booming until Prohibition (1920 to 1933) put an end to the trend. After Prohibition was abolished, production continued and Pikesville became the last representative of Maryland Rye Whiskey. Since 1982, Heaven Hill Distillery has continued the legacy of Pikesville Rye, producing it at the Bernheim distillery in Louisville.
