Aged in Hogsheads and matured for 8 months in Sherry Butt / outturn of 703 Bottles.
The name Allt-á-Bhainne comes from Gaelic and means 'milk stream'. The distillery was founded in 1975 by Chivas Brothers, a Seagram subsidiary. In 1989, capacity was doubled with the addition of two further stills. Following its takeover by Pernod Ricard on December 19, 2001, it was closed in October 2002. The distillery was recommissioned in May 2005.
Nose: Opens with fresh, salty, oceanic notes. Develops on sweet, peat-dried malt. Mouth: Charred oak, chimney smoke, rock pools and summer tar. Finish: Long and persistent with brown sugar, ash and very phenolic.
Nose: Glenglassaugh Sandend reveals rich notes of ripe fruit, honey and vanilla, with a subtle hint of smoky wood. Mouth: On the palate, this single malt reveals complex flavors of tropical fruit, caramel and spice, with a smooth, velvety texture. Finish: The finish is long and warm, leaving lingering notes of oak, dried fruit and dark chocolate on the palate.
Nose: Overall dry, vinous impression supported by spicy, woody notes. Seductive aromas of tart red berries, vanilla, a hint of wax. A little water softens the nose and relaxes the aroma, without much alteration.
Mouth: Ultra-unctuous, gourmet texture. Barley sugar, pinch of salt, suggestions of currant and crunchy grape. At reduced strength, it's not as tart, but still spicy; the sweetness is enhanced but the mouth-watering spicy heat remains.
Finish: Long and dry with pepper and mild spice. With milder water, now with a trace of fondant in the aftertaste.
